Jeremy Verhines is a board certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with full practice authority holding licenses to treat in both California and Hawaii. In September of 2020 the state of California passed Assembly Bill 890 allowing 2 new practice categories (103NP and 104NP) for Nurse Practitioners. These categories provide a pathway to independent practice for Nurse Practitioners. Due to the amount of experience and accrued hours he has, Jeremy has been awarded full practice authority (104NP) and is able to practice autonomously in the state of California. He also has full practice authority in the state of Hawaii. In the state of California, unless a Nurse Practitioner has completed the requirements of 104NP, they are not allowed to practice autonomously and must have a collaborating agreement in place with a physician.
Jeremy completed his graduate degree at The Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio. Prior to gaining experience in the care and treatment of the psychiatric patient population, Jeremy gained extensive knowledge and experience in the Critical Care, Emergency Services, and Medical Surgical Fields of Nursing. He is a well-rounded provider who understands both the medical and psychiatric side of medicine and incorporates this experience as he considers treatment for his clients. Following his time working with the critically ill, Jeremy had the opportunity to cross train in psychiatry. After his exposure to this area of medicine, he found his passion. Jeremy saw the need for more comprehensive goal-directed, compassionate care and began his growth in this area of medicine. Since that day, Jeremy has been sought out by both Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and other Executives in healthcare for his expert advice and extensive knowledge surrounding the care and advocacy of this vulnerable clientele and especially caring for these individuals who may have a primary medical diagnosis with a comorbid psychiatric disease. He has a professional reputation amongst his peers, is seen as a man of integrity, is hard-working, and committed to getting to the root cause of concerns.
Among other things, Jeremy is a disabled Marine Corps Veteran, born again Christian, has extensive experience in the corporate world outside of healthcare, and is even a professional musician who volunteers his time leading worship for the local church. As you can see, Jeremy is a well-rounded, down-to-earth professional who understands life’s challenges and has a heart to help individuals navigate through them. His values and beliefs are rooted in his Christian faith. He believes that every person is unique, has a specific purpose, and is capable of functioning at the top of their potential given the right season and circumstances. He is committed to helping every person get to where they feel better about themselves and function in the capacity they are called to. Jeremy was born and raised in Southeast Missouri. In 1991, Jeremy made his journey to Southern California via the US Marine Corps. He continues to reside in Southern Orange County with his wife, three children, and two grandchildren. Some of his hobbies include: Jiujitsu, Fishing, Woodworking, Restoring Cars, and anything to do with exploring the outdoors.
Your first visit will consist of an initial evaluation with the provider. This evaluation will last approximately 45-60 minutes. Before the end of evaluation, the provider will determine whether or not you may benefit from further evaluation time before beginning treatment. In some rare cases, an additional visit may be necessary to complete the initial evaluation as extra time may be needed to gather information from you, speak to your family or loved ones, review past medical records, or order any necessary lab work. If this is the case, you will be asked to schedule additional time in order to complete the initial evaluation. Most importantly, the initial visit is a consultation and is an opportunity to decide whether or not we are the right fit for you. During the evaluation, you will be asked questions about current symptoms you are experiencing, past psychiatric and medical history, social and occupational history, family history, and any other relevant information that would assist the provider in ensuring you receive the best care possible. These questions may be personal and uncomfortable to talk about or cause discomfort in some people. Rest assured, we will never judge you. You are encouraged to be as open as possible so that the most accurate information can be used to help formulate your treatment plan. One important note is that if you have past medical or psychiatric records that may be helpful, copies of laboratory results, or other test results, please bring them to the first visit. Please also have available contact information of your previous psychiatrists or other physicians taking care of you so that your provider can obtain collateral information if needed.
Thank you for visiting our home. We hope to see you soon!
